Symposium honoring Dr. Michelle LeBlanc to be held during annual Theriogenology conference


The Theriogenology Foundation, in partnership with Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital, will hold a one day symposium honoring Dr. Michelle LeBlanc at the conclusion of the annual Theriogenology conference, which will take place this year in Baltimore, Maryland, August 20 through 25. The symposium, which will focus on the problem mare, will be held on Saturday, August 25 at the Hyatt Regency on the beautiful Inner Harbor. An international roster of distinguished speakers has been assembled to present the latest information on the diagnosis and treatment of the infertile mare.

Presenters will includeTwink Allen, BVSc, PhD, ScD, DESM, MRCVS, England; Keith Betteridge, BVSc, MVSc, PhD of Ontario Veterinary College; Dale Paccamonti, DVM, MS, DACT, of Louisiana State University’s School of Veterinary Medicine; Dirk Vanderwall, DVM, PhD, DACT of New Bolton Center, University of Pennsylvania and  Michelle LeBlanc, DVM, DACT and Rolf Embertson, DVM, DACVS, both of Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital.

The symposium will also include a panel discussion including Walter Zent, DVM, ACT (hon), Hagyard Equine Medical Institute; David Hartman, DVM, Hartman Equine Reproduction Center; Robert Foss, DVM, Equine Medical Services, Inc. and Philip Matthews DVM,  of Peterson and Smith Equine Hospital.

Proceeds from the symposium will go toward Dr. LeBlanc’s out-of-pocket medical expenses incurred from aggressive medical and surgical treatments for cancer. A well-respected theriogenology educator, researcher, and practitioner, LeBlanc was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award from the World Equine Veterinary Association in 2011 and she is a former Theriogenologist of the Year.

Tom Riddle, DVM, co-founder of Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital, where LeBlanc practices stated that the symposium has, "great speakers, great information, great cause. If you work with problem mares, this will be a can't-miss event.

The registration fee for the symposium will be $250, which includes lunch. Following the symposium there will be a reception and dancing at 7 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Baltimore on the Inner Harbor. Tickets for the reception may be purchased separately from the symposium, and are $100.
