Karelian Released from Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital
Grade 1 winner Karelian who sustained a life threatening injury in July, has been released from Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital. The eight-year-old gelding fractured both right front sesamoid bones, ruptured his suspensory apparatus and disrupted the lateral collateral ligament, dislocating his fetlock during a morning workout. Karelian was sent to orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Larry Bramlage who performed a fetlock arthrodesis with pastern support augmentation on July 19. Horse owners still have an opportunity for a free gastroscopy exam of their horse at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital during the July 15 Merial Animal Health gastroscopy seminar. Merial conducts Gastroscopy seminars throughout the year at equine veterinary practices nationwide providing horse owners with the diagnostic examination for their horse at no charge with medication purchase required only for those patients identified with stomach ulcers.
