Controller (Full Time)

Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital is a widely recognized, world renowned equine hospital. Our mission is to provide expertise for our patients in a caring, professional and ethical manner that creates value for the entire equine community. Behind every patient, we have several teams who make it all run smoothly, and that includes our accounting department. This is a chance to play a vital role to bring precision and insight to the numbers that keep our mission moving forward. As a vital part of our operations, this position is on-site at our Lexington, KY location. Due to the nature of our work and the need for close collaboration with clinical teams, remote work is not offered for this role.

Primary Duties

  • Perform month-end procedures including but not limited to:
    • Recording revenues
    • Analyzing and organizing revenue data to ensure appropriate allocation
    • Maintaining monthly reconciliation of balance sheet and/or pass-through accounts
    • Performing routine journal entries
    • Booking fixed assets and prepaid expenses
  • Review accounts payable batches
  • Implement and enforce internal controls
  • Develop SOPs (standard operating procedures) for various functions when needed
  • Assess and approve client balances and refunds when necessary
  • Assist in projects requested by Director of Finance or Shareholders relating to data
  • Perform year-end procedures and journal entries
  • Help maintain legal and regulatory compliance in regards to financial reporting
  • Assist in annual audits/review, evaluations, and surveys
  • Analyze data and utilize critical thinking skills to develop ideas and solutions as they relate to finances
  • Serve as a back-up for the Director of Finance and other areas of the department
  • Be available as a resource for the accounting department and other departments throughout the clinic and provide guidance where necessary
  • Develop an understanding of the practice management software and be able to assist staff as needed on the financial aspect of the program
  • Contribute to a team environment, focused on enhancing technical, behavioral, and communication skills
  • Take appropriate steps to protect the financial information and assets for all Rood and Riddle Entities
  • Perform other duties as required

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
  • 3-5 years of accounting experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other computer functions
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills
  • Knowledge of accounting business processes (accounts receivable, accounts payable, inventory, fixed assets) and ability to apply accounting principles
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities

Skills Preferred

  • CPA license not required, but highly preferred
  • Experience within the equine and/or veterinary industries not required, but highly preferred
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains and/or TrinDocs not required, but preferred
  • Customer service experience, both internally and externally
  • Organizational and time-management skills, ability to prioritize tasks and adjust to rapid changes, and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication skills, both as a speaker and listener
  • Ability to handle day-to-day work challenges confidently
