On the Rood & Riddle Vet Check, Dr. Katherine Garrett discusses the importance of imaging in the horse industry, and how it helps veterinarians figure out if there are any issues with a horse and what those issues are. Since horses can't tell you what hurts, imaging must be used to diagnose problems. Imaging such as radiographs (x-rays), ultrasound, MRI's and CT scans are employed by veterinarians, and lately radiography equipment has been made portable so that it can be brought to a farm or racetrack. Imaging, mostly ultrasound, is also used when breeding a mare to ensure that the process goes as smoothly as possible.
