DVM, JD - Real Estate Management
Born in Ohio and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area in California, Bill Rood is a 1972 graduate of the University of California at Davis School of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) and the University of Kentucky College Of Law (JD) in 1975. While attending law school, Dr. Rood started an ambulatory equine practice in Lexington that was flourishing by the time he completed his law studies.
In 1981, Dr. Rood and Dr. Riddle partnered and formed what is now Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital. Dr. Rood managed the hospital administration as well as his own ambulatory practice until 2000 when the growth of the hospital demanded that he serve as Hospital Director full-time. Rood currently serves as the CEO/President of Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital managing 60 veterinarians and over 220 total staff.
In 1990, Dr. Rood founded the American Association of Equine practitioners Practice Management Symposium which is still being held today.
In 2001, Dr. Rood founded the first Veterinary Management Group for equine practices.
From 2003 to 2012, Dr. Rood founded and directed the Opportunities in Equine Practice Seminar which hosted an average of 450 3rd year veterinary students per year in Lexington.
In 2008, Dr. Rood was ordained as a Deacon in the Catholic Church and currently serves in the diocese of Lexington.
Dr. Rood is happily married to his wife Karen and enjoys spending time with his 7 children and especially his 3 grandchildren.
